Have you ever felt that it shouldn’t be so hard or take so much effort to lose even a little bit of weight? Well, the last thing you need is another diet! If you are simply told what to eat and it doesn’t work for you, you’ll chalk up a loss and go on to the next diet, creating further losses, and then think there is a problem with you, that you have poor willpower (an inability to stick with something).
Working with thousands of individuals has led me to believe that people really do not have a problem with willpower—they simply have never been taught the right way to lose weight. No one is going to stick with a program that’s not working. But if you do the correct thing and you know how to do it, it will work and you will stick with it.
In my clinic, I have found that the missing link is an educational step. Once a person has the background and understanding of HOW fat is burned and HOW health is created, they succeed. But if you simply tell them what to do, you’ve done nothing for them of any lasting value.
There are so many weight loss books out there that say, “Scientific studies have shown . . . ” or “Everyone knows . . . ” or “Experts say . . . ” That type of approach is very far from conveying understanding.
This book is different.
I want to help you solve a big problem—stubborn weight. To do that, we must first make sure we have identified the correct problem. Many people are attempting to fix the wrong problem: their weight (which is actually the symptom). You also need to know what controls metabolism— hormones—because you are going to use these hormones to work for you instead of against you. Hormones are chemical messages produced by glands. You have six fat-burning and three fat-making hormones, and each is triggered by different things. Might it not be a good idea to know what these are and how to trigger them?
The 7 Principles of Fat Burning is not necessarily for people who can lose weight easily; it is for those who have a very stubborn metabolism. The 7 Principles of Fat Burning gives you the most effective leverage over weight loss because it addresses the very things that control weight loss-fat-burning hormones. To my knowledge, no other book in existence gives you an easy-to-understand summary of how to use food and activities to trigger all of your fat-burning hormones. Most people don’t even know these exist, let alone how to get them to work.
Fat is not a cushion or insulation, as many people think, but is a store of reserve energy, and I’m about to show you how to get your body to tap into and run on this energy. Most people are running their bodies on sugar fuel and rarely use fat fuel, yet right now you already have within your own body everything you need in order to tap into your fat reserves.
You are going to be triggering not just one hormone but all six key hormones to create maximum fat-burning effects. As a result, you not only WILL lose major weight but will get extremely healthy at the same time. The nice thing is that some of these hormones are antiaging as well.
Different bodies need different solutions. I have found that most people fall into four different types and need different variations of food (especially protein) and exercise. In chapter 4, you’ll be taking a quiz to find out which body type you have. Once you start the eating plan, you’ll soon find out what your body responds to best in order to lose the most weight possible in the shortest period of time with the least effort.
What you might not have realized is that your own hormones have been working against you, making you fat and distorting your body’s shape. Instead of giving you the same old same old, I’m going to help you find out which hormone or gland is responsible for your body type and guide you to the best program to fix the problem.
You will not be allowed to get hungry, cut calories, starve yourself or skip a meal. You will be eating nutrient-dense foods, which will knock out cravings for sweets, breads, salty snacks and chocolate and keep you satisfied.
For the first two weeks you will be on the Liver Enhancement Plan, which will prepare you for better fat burning later on. Did you realize that all your fat-burning hormones work through your liver? So, by giving it a good cleaning, things will work faster and more easily for you. The liver needs lots of raw and steamed vegetables, some fruits, especially apples, raw nuts and a very special cranberry drink, which you will be using to speed up the process. This is where you’ll start noticing your clothes are looser, particularly around your midsection.
After completing this step, you will start increasing proteins until you get the right amount for your body. You will then continue this combination of foods until you achieve your ideal health and weight. The secret is to specifically address your main glandular weakness as opposed to the shotgun treat-everything approach. Each fat-burning hormone has different triggers and you are going to use them ALL.
This is a lifestyle change, not just a diet you do to lose weight and then go back to junk foods. It has been our experience that as people increase their health, their bodies no longer desire refined sweet foods but crave nutrient-dense whole foods.
Anyone can lose weight on just about any diet. The most unique and exciting thing about this program is that you will be able to keep the weight off because you are correcting the cause. With this program, you will be stabilizing the glands and hormones that have been responsible for making you fat in the first place. If you simply do what everyone else is doing—losing the weight without fixing the cause of the problem—the weight will just come right back. Your primary goal needs to be getting your weakest gland healthy so that you can stay permanently at your ideal weight.
The absolute maximum fat a person can burn per week is two pounds. However, water weight can come off at two to five pounds per day in some cases. In one extreme case, I had a patient eliminate a full bladder of fluid 12 times within a 24-hour period. So, how much water weight or fat weight you have will determine how quickly you will lose the weight. But the problem you’ve been running into is that your own hormone system has been blocked, preventing your body from burning fat and from losing water weight. Our goal is to fix this problem and keep you in fat-burning mode throughout this entire process.
Your energy will be significantly increased and your sleep will become much sounder and deeper; your digestion will improve and your nails, skin and hair will also be in better condition, because hormones control these body activities and characteristics. Many of my patients have lowered cholesterol and blood pressure on this program as well.
Through a study of this book you will identify your own body type and learn some fascinating things about how your body works and how it stops working, especially in regard to fat burning. The idea is to teach you how to look beyond diets and exercise and instead use hormone triggers from foods and exercise. This way you will never have to depend on a program but will be in full control of your own weight and health. Nobody will have to tell you what to eat at a social gathering or a restaurant because you yourself will be able to tell the difference between what causes fat and what burns fat.
